Downtown LA Engagement Session: Ed + Jen
August 22, 2008 | Filed Under engagement | Leave a Comment
i have met jen and ed briefly at the start and at the end of the e session. though vince did all the shots,
i can not help but post a few lines as downtown LA is special to me as it is very special to them.
almost everyday i pass by the walt disney concert hall, and most days, photographers-pro or
hobbyists alike can be seen capturing different angles of downtown’s most beautiful
structure (in my opinion); so when i learned that they wanted their e session done at the
historic bunker hill, i was excited.
some days, on my way to work,while passing through the disney concert hall along grand ave,
i would imagine them right in the middle of grand ave backdropped by the downtown sky,
the disney concert hall and the skyscrapers, and i was ecstatic when i saw some of the
photos conveying what i have imagined.
and there were more surprises…
it was a pretty day. the sun was low, it was at its best..
there was a slight chill in the air which was just perfect for a walk around the concert
hall’s grounds,
there was an ongoing concert which gave the place an ambience of ‘busy-ness’;
it was a sunday so it was just pleasantly busy =)

Westin Pasadena Wedding: Duke + Sheryl
August 20, 2008 | Filed Under weddings | 4 Comments
and she said:
there is only one happiness in life, to love and be loved
and it is so obvious they both found it; sealed it in marriage at westin pasadena
it was a night so special as it commenced the beginning of ‘togetherness’;the end of a long-distance relationship; the beginning of a new life; the end of singlehood.
it was indeed a privilege witnessing and capturing this special event; it was a bonus that sheryl was so subtle with her poses ; that duke caught on pretty quickly and went along with her.

08.08.08 Wedding. The hotel is so photogenic, we didn’t run out of places to shoot and time was the only thing that stopped us. A dilemma I’d rather have anytime. Lighting is wonderful, it is very warm giving this yellowy ambiance. Their staff were very helpful. Someone even suggested we do one of our shots with the grand piano and I didn’t have to ask.
Lastly, every time I edit, I always heave a sigh of relief for having Carla around. Not only for being the extra eye, but also for capturing stuff that is surely impossible for me to take when she’s not around. A perfect example is photo number 7 & 8 (where their elbows are resting in some sort of balcony rail). I took the wider angled photo #7 while Carla took a closeup shot at almost the same instant (#8).

Point Fermin Park Wedding: Fernando + Jennifer
August 14, 2008 | Filed Under weddings | 2 Comments
red roses and petals, red vest and a white coat, red band on a white wedding gown, red ribbons on white place cards, wedding rings on red heart-shaped jelly beans, even a red leash on a white doggie. it looked like a valentines day wedding in august; and it was sweet and special.
jennifer and fernando’s ‘red wedding’ was held at point fermin park in san pedro, california;
a beautifully landscaped park with a breathtaking view of the ocean. it is said to have been named by a british explorer in 1793. the park boasts of a victorian-style lighthouse that dates back to the 1870’s era. aside from the beautiful blooms and the white picket fences surrounding the lighthouse, there is this one particular tree that caught our interest ..it was standing tall and proud… its limbs outstretched as if beckoning the onlooker for shade and protection against southern california’s heat or its harshest winds. and it is under this particular tree that jen and fernando said their i do’s.
and as i read more about the park, i have stumbled upon an article published in 1901 at the LA Times by a visitor of the historic lighthouse. and here’s an excerpt as she has most eloquently expressed what point fermin is all about.
Point Fermin Light.
Its History, Its Keeper, and Its Surroundings.
A long, winding shore line, grayish white in the golden sunshine; a jagged, precipitous bluff, its brown sides flecked with vivid splashes of blood-red ice plant; a wide expanse of blue water coquetting with the eager sunbeams; and above, rising straight from the jutting point, a lighthouse, white and still, the silent sentinel of the deep. Here for the past twenty-six years it has stood, and from its tower, each night, from sunset till sunrise, has shone forth a beacon light of warning and of guidance for the good ships which pass that way. It is situated about three miles from the historic little harbor town of San Pedro, upon Point Fermin, a sharp promontory cutting into the sea, in lat, 33 deg. 42 min. 14 sec. N. and long. 118 deg. 17min. 41 sec. W.

Pasadena City Hall Engagement Session: Duke and Sheryl
August 10, 2008 | Filed Under engagement | 2 Comments
duke and sheryl engaged! and they are a lovely couple. it was particularly pleasant seeing them pose and make faces during their engagement session at the pasadena city hall; and the city hall was an awesome find. it is said to be one of the finest examples of california mediterranean architecture. aside from being in the national register of historic places, it is a favorite among filmmakers as filming location. it was not busy during the weekday, so duke and sheryl found no trouble twirling and dancing under the city hall’s majestic dome. it was lovely and did i say they are a lovely couple?
