Marriott Marina Del Rey Wedding: Lisa + Dmitry
September 30, 2008 | Filed Under weddings | 7 Comments
i have always been a fan of romance.
from books, to movies, to songs….
after getting married , i thought that the the inclination to anything romantic would go inversely proportional with the number of marital years; but i was wrong… despite the pressures associated with marriage and parenthood, there was always that ‘compulsion’ for anything romantic..
maybe that’s why love i wedding photography.
i think weddings represent romance.
and because i am romantic, i have always ‘personally’ judged weddings based on the variety of wonderful emotions evoked by the wedding itself.
so when we covered lisa and dmitry’s wedding at the beautiful marriot hotel in manila del rey…. i was very excited.
but i don’t think i was prepared for the seemingly boundless energy and gamut of emotions that i have witnessed at this wedding.
it was all real and engrossing.
i remember music….. melodic music that was poignant.
i remember dancing …circle dancing…the hora which was so much fun.
and their wedding was not just about fun.
it was also about tradition.
and the wedding rituals were equally fascinating.
at some point, i have seen group of men gathered in a corner at dusk, in prayer amidst the happy chattering of the guests.
and i have seen them again, at midnight amidst the joyous dancing of the crowd.
it was like a paradox. an amazing contradiction.
lastly,i feel proud that lisa and dmitry did well at their wedding.
i have seen them having fun and have somehow witnessed the deep regard that they have for each other.
mazel tov lisa and dmitry!

Chateau Elysee | Manor Hotel Wedding: John + Crystal
September 20, 2008 | Filed Under weddings | Leave a Comment
she was anxious (like most brides );but with just enough anxiety to show a hint of anticipation in her pretty smile.
she was excited (as expected of a bride); it brought a steady glow in her eyes.
and as excited as the day she sent a photo of her wedding gown during her first few emails with us=)
i am not sure if it she has practiced or researched her poses, or if she’s just naturally graceful;
but i love how she went on with her wedding preparations doing things in a ‘picture-ready’ manner; coz it just made things so easy for us.
pardon the term, coz the term ‘flirting’comes to mind =) …but with the camera as the object of interest….
it is when one does her usual ways: whether putting on the other shoe or pair of earring; smoothing the creases on one’s gown, leaning on the doorway for support; rearranging the flowers in one’s bouquet, or even embracing that ‘ i havent’ seen you for along time-friend”
but one does such things with the camera in mind…with the thought that any moment, any action can be captured by the camera; so one does things with an added hint of gracefulness…or poise.
i think it is a nice mindset or attitude.
and he just went along with her, beautifully.

The hotel was simply fantastic, I think I can shoot all day and not run out of places to shoot at. What used to be Chateau Elysee is now called the Manor Hotel. Home of the Church of Scientology Celebrity Centre International. Located within the vicinity of Hollywood: its castle like french architecture gave me the opportunity to shoot a fairy tale wedding. Literally.

Fantasea One – Marina Del Rey Wedding: Chang + Sally
September 12, 2008 | Filed Under weddings | Leave a Comment
chang and sally’s wedding was so much fun.
’twas a saturday and the sky was unusually overcast;
we didnt see the orange glow of the setting sun while they were saying their vows,
but the number of wellwishers aboard the yacht sure made up of for the absence of it
and the dark clouds that hovered above the yacht while it was cruisin’ along marina del rey was tinged with purple, making it unexpectedly delightful.
twas a night filled with fun and dancing.
my only regret is vince and i never got to try dancin ‘ on the checkered dancefloor.
it is hard when you’re ‘on duty’ , you know=)

Point Dume, Malibu Engagement Session: Raymond + Bermie
September 6, 2008 | Filed Under engagement | Leave a Comment
when bermie asked me a few months back for suggestions on beach locations for an engagement shoot, point dume was the first location that came to mind.
not only because it takes just about an hour ride to get there from where we live;
but it provides a quick,easy magnificent view of the pacific ocean.
point dume is a few miles off santa monica through the pacific coast highway.
the beach is set along the malibu coastline and it was just the perfect setting to capture photos of couples traipsing along the wide sandy beach.
bermie and raymond just brought along with them the right amount of enthusiasm to enjoy the cliff, the beach and the ocean.
